The Gym Guide to ADA Compliance
One of the most important factors to proper healthcare practices is safety. Is your Gym ADA compliant? It’s important to use ADA compliant signage and make other ADA compliant accommodations. Follow our guide here to make sure you’re making the gym as ADA compliant as it can be.
What does it mean to be ADA compliant? The ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act. Being compliant with this act refers to ensuring there are policies in place to account for individuals with disabilities. Specifically, it involves providing equal rights and opportunities for those individuals.
Training gyms typically have training mats designed to protect individuals from injury. While they do provide safety from falls, they also create possible tripping hazards. They tend to range in thickness from one and one quarter to one and three quarters in height. ADA laws apply to all places of public accommodation, including gyms. Providing transitioning ramps can help to protect individuals with disabilities and remain in line with ADA compliance.
These ramps are fairly easy to install quickly and can be held down with double-back tape. If your gym uses training mats or similar surfaces and you have not installed appropriate ramps, make sure to do so as soon as possible to improve your gym’s ADA compliance.
